I disagree with claims that NJ Democrats in office are insensitive to the cost of living in New Jersey. More specifically, I have noted a willingness to dismiss the efforts of District 11 Assembly Members Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling to make New Jersey more affordable. In the short four years that they’ve represented us, Joann and Eric have been keenly sensitive to the high tax rates we face and have worked hard to reduce our tax burden.

Review of legislation that Eric and Joann have sponsored clearly highlights their priorities and lays out a roadmap of positive changes that they’ve fought to enact through their sponsored legislation.

They made sure that Monmouth County was brought into New Jersey’s brand-new Common-Sense Shared Services Pilot Program, allowing our municipalities to enter into shared-service agreements that can help towns bring down costs for local taxpayers.

They fought to fully fund the Senior Freeze, greatly increasing the number of senior citizens who qualify. But they’re not stopping there - instead, they’re fighting to make the Senior Freeze fairer by letting seniors receive their refund as a tax credit, instead of a reimbursement, allowing seniors to keep their money in their pockets.

Finally, they doubled the veterans’ income tax deduction, and increased the income tax property tax deduction from $10,000 to $15,000 - big, real changes that New Jersey taxpayers can instantly make use of. Despite the short time they’ve been in office, Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling have proven that they’ll always fight for us and should be re-elected on November 5th!
