LONG BRANCH, NJ - Checks representing race proceeds in the amount of $5,720 were presented on February 21st to Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch, by Philip Hinck and David Zurheide of the Jersey Shore Running Club. The revitalized Long Branch beachfront was the site of the 2nd annual Pier Village 5K road race, staged by the Jersey Shore Running Club, on Labor Day Monday, September 5th, 2005. Sponsored by the Applied Development Company of Hoboken, developers of the new Pier Village project, the goal of the race was to bring runners to Long Branch to witness first hand the amazing growth in that area. "The Applied Company believes deeply in strong community relationships and this is just one indication of that", said co-race founder Tim McLoone, whose new restaurant opened in the Pier Village project last spring. "The day was a festive one with music, prizes, and refreshments for all the participants", continued McLoone. "Lots of runners concluded their summer seasons in Long Branch.”
On Sunday, November 27, the Jersey Shore Running Club (JSRC), the Middletown Youth Athletic Association (MYAA) and Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch hosted the fifth annual Navesink Challenge at Bodman Park in Middletown, New Jersey. The Navesink Challenge included two races, both featuring scenic country roads and several hilly sections, a challenging 15K run and a 5K run/walk. Proceeds from the event benefited MYAA and Habitat for Humanity. MYAA sponsors baseball and soccer programs, as well as other athletic activities in Middletown. In the past five years, the Navesink Challenge has attracted over 1,600 participants and raised more than $17,000 for the beneficiaries.
The Jersey Shore Running Club is more than a group devoted to running. With over fifteen hundred runners, our members enjoy the camaraderie of running with friends and participate in a wide range of social, running and community minded activities. In 2005 alone, the club through its events and the events that we were actively involved in were able to raise more that $389,000 for local charitable groups such as Special Olympics, The Foodbank, Arthritis Foundation and many other worthwhile causes Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch started in 1993 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a Christian based Ecumenical organization that seeks to eliminate substandard housing worldwide. For over two decades, Habitat for Humanity has been helping low-income families achieve the dream of home ownership.
