AHHerald to Roll Out New Format
- Details
- Category: News
AHHerald has resolved technical issues that could have caused us to go dark for a while. Our webhost, the company that provides space for our website, threatened to suspend our account, as it did for a few hours last month, if we could notreduce the demands on their computer. A combination of increased web traffic - a result of Sandy coverage - and out-of-date software which runs our website caused high loads on their computer's CPU (central processing unit). We have made tweaks to our out-of-date software to patch the problem for now.
In the weeks ahead, we will roll our a new website and a new format. More on that later. For now, you can continue to count on the Herald for daily news and events information, the best columnists on the Bayshore, and letters from your neighbors.

Merry Christmas

We would like to wish all our readers a very Merry Christmas.
Since October, when Superstorm Sandy came through and devasted so many homes and disrupted so many lives, the spirit of Christmas has been evident in the volunteers who have given so much of themselves in the cleanup efforts; in those who have opened their homes and shared their love; and in those who have collected toys and clothes and food.
We remember our men and women of the military who sacrifice so much for our freedom and our way of life.
And a special prayer goes out to the children and parents of Newtown.
We hope that the Spirit of Christmas continues to reach all of you.
Merry Christmas!

AHHerald Website - Technical Problems

We are having some technical difficulties with our website. Our site is hosted through a web hosting company. As a result of increased usage, we are using excess capacity on the hosts resources. When this happens, the hosting company temporarily suspends the hosting account.
Some readers saw a message this morning the the account had been suspended. This was confusing to our readers. Your individual account is not suspended with the AHHerald website. It was the AHHerald who was temporarily suspended.
We are doing all we can to address the problem. This means possible upgrades to the software behind the AHHerald website. In that event, it is possible we will be out of service for up to 24 hours.
Helping Highlands Survivors - Raising Funds for Housing, Medical Needs

It would be hard to find someone in the tri-state area that wasn’t impacted by Superstorm Sandy. Some of us were more fortunate than others only sustaining the inconvenience of the loss of power or relatively minor property damage. Many others, however, had their lives thrown into turmoil with the loss of homes, cars, property and in some cases loved ones. One of the areas particularly hard hit along the Jersey shore was Highlands, NJ.
Located at the tip of the Jersey shore, Highlands is a small historical fishing village with about 5,000 residents. It’s a place where my family has deep roots tracing back to the original settlement of the area when it was known as Parkerstown. For me personally, my early years were spent there as a baby and a survivor of Hurricane Donna in 1960. Later in life I would go on to meet my wife Abbie while working at a local restaurant called The Clam Hut (which sustained significant damage during the storm).
