$14 Million in Federal Funding for Storm Repairs to Atlantic Highlands Harbor Marina Piers

FEMA is covering 75% of the total cost for the repair project, which is more than $19 million. Twelve damaged piers are included in this project; eight of them are fixed wood and four are floating wood. The project also includes repairs to the observation platform, access ramps for those with disabilities and all of the water, electric, sanitary, and fuel system utilities on the damaged docks.
Superstorm Sandy devastated many of the Jersey Shore areas represented by Congressman Pallone who has since been a vocal advocate for robust relief plans to help rebuild from the historic storm.
Middletown Township Introduces 2013 Municipal Budget

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The proposed 2013 municipal budget represents an ongoing commitment to hold a tight rein on spending and make a full recovery from Superstorm Sandy.
The proposed budget the Township Committee introduced Thursday reflects a 2.2 percent tax levy increase and a consistent effort to cut costs without sacrificing core essential government services. The proposed change would cost the average Middletown homeowner about $2.57 per month.
Without the impact of Superstorm Sandy, the tax levy increase would have been 1.14 percent. The total cost of the historic storm is estimated to be about $14 million which the Township is paying off in increments over the next 5 years. FEMA reimbursements are expected to cover about 75% of the storm’s total cost. Sandy’s total impact on the 2013 budget is about $500,000.
“The Township Committee is committed to ensuring Middletown recovers from Superstorm Sandy,” said Mayor Gerard P. Scharfenberger “We also remain focused on providing essential government services at the most efficient and effective levels. Recent changes to township operations that are generating cost savings include switching to single stream recycling and leasing Croydon Hall to the Trinity School.”

MIDDLETOWN, NJ - The Middletown Township Public Library will feature local author Barbara Kingsley Singer reading from her book Breakup Cocktail on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, beginning at 7 p.m.
A perceptive mixture of around 60 sometimes-scandalous relationship tales, Breakup Cocktail is made up of a large measure of reality and a splash of wit. Both easy to read and hard to put down, these tales will take the reader on a breakup journey that crosses over cheating and revenge; passes loneliness and depression by, and reaches recovery—with a smile on every page.
Barbara Kingsley Singer is a native of Leeds, England who relocated to the USA with only the clothes on her back. The airline had lost her suitcase. Using her past experiences and hardships to form this, her first book, the author introduces quirky characters into the tales of Breakup Cocktail, who become the victims of the events that had originally made her struggle. But optimism is hereditary in her family and she never lost her sense of humor.

Red Bank, N.J. — A delicate tone poem featuring a breathtaking sunrise, the lush sounds of a romantic piano concerto, and a symphony representing a composer’s crowning achievement will be heard on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, NJ, as the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra, led by their Principal Conductor
The afternoon will begin with Dawn Over the Moskva River by Modest Mussorgsky. Like his more well-known work, Pictures at an Exhibition, the music paints a vivid picture. In this work, one can hear birds chirping and water flowing as the sun gradually warms the Russian landscape.
