Atlantic Highlands First Aid Marks EMS Week

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – Have you considered what your local volunteer EMS organization contributes to the community lately?
If not, now's the time to note their efforts, as the Atlantic Highlands First Aid and Safety Squad prepares to mark the annual EMS Week.
The national week, May 15 thru May 21, is set aside to highlight the contributions of local EMS squads to their communities.
As part of the event, the Atlantic Highlands First Aid Squad Cadets will participate in the Town-wide Garage Sale set for May 14, starting at 9 a.m. The Cadets, a division of the AHFAS set aside for those between the ages of 14 and 17, use the event as a fundraiser. They’ll have tables with a variety of goods for sale outside of the EMS building at 10 E. Highland Ave.
AH Students Honored by Shade Tree Commission

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Twelve borough elementary school students have been honored by the borough Shade Tree Commission for their participation in the annual Arbor Day tree poster contest.
The students were cited by commission chairman Louise I. Donoghue during an awards assembly May 10 at the school. Their posters will be posted in the hallway of the Atlantic Highlands Elementary School.
Each of the 12 received gift certificates from local merchants including pizza, "movie money" from the Atlantic Cinema and notice that a tree will be planted in their honor in a national forest.
First place winners in the three categories were Cara Plumaker, first and second grades; Corrina Vidal, third and fourth grades, and Alexis Bane, fifth and sixth grades.

Exhibit Features Work from Children’s Art Therapy Program

Belmar, NJ - The Belmar Arts Council (BAC) announces the opening of an exhibit entitled, “Art Expressing Heartbreak, Healing, and Hope,” featuring artwork from the Children’s Art Therapy Program at Riverview Medical Center.
The artworks are powerful expressions of the child’s experience with illness and death.
The Exhibition will be displayed May 15 through June 4, 2011. The opening reception is on Sunday, May 15, from 3-5 pm, at The Boatworks, the Belmar Art Council’s headquarters located at 608 River Road. Information about the BAC can be obtained online at www.BelmarArts.org .
The reception is open to all. During the reception there will be art activities for children in attendance. Additionally, for adults there will be informational sessions focusing on: “What the child with a sick family member needs.”
Riverview’s Art Therapy Program has served children and their families with an illness or death in the family for over 30 years. The program, recently featured on CBS news with Dr. Max Gomez, provides groups for children ages 4 1/2 to 13 years of age. The program,
