Atlantic Highlands Halloween Parade

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Ghouls, goblins and Harry Potters paraded down First Avenue in the borough Saturday for the annual Halloween parade.

Due to construction at Borough Hall, the parade route was reversed this year. Costumed participants assembled at Veteran's Memorial Park and marched along the main business street, waving to the folks along the road. The parade concluded at the Municipal Harbor where children were treated to pizza. Judges presented awards of Target Department Store gift cards to winners in several categories.

Red Bank Business Alliance Seeks Tree

RED BANK, NJ – Red Bank RiverCenter is looking for a 20 - 25 ft. full Evergreen, preferably Blue Spruce to use in the business district as Red Bank’s Christmas tree for the 2010 Holiday Season. Red Bank has a wonderful holiday atmosphere, excellent customer service, music on the sidewalks and stores with beautiful items for everyone on your gift list. Each year RiverCenter sends out a request to the public to donate a tree that will be lit at the Dublin House Courtyard, 30 Monmouth Street from November 26^th, 2010 – January 10^th, 2011. RiverCenter covers the cost for the removal of the donated tree, and the donor individual or family is recognized onstage at the Red Bank Town Lighting and Holiday Express concert planned for November 26^th.

Because of logistics in transporting the tree, we are looking within a 5 mile radius of Red Bank. The tree will be removed from the donor’s property and installed at 30 Monmouth Street on Sunday, November 21^st with the help of Steve Garcia of The Tree Man, Beckers Tree Service, Jim Bruno of Powerhouse Signworks, Red Bank Department of Public Works and the Red Bank Police Department. Those interested in donating a tree are asked to contact RiverCenter’s office at the Visitors’ Center phone number at 732-741-9211.

Red Bank RiverCenter is a not-for-profit alliance of businesses, property owners, and residents working toward the economic vitality of Red Bank’s business district.

"Playing Doctor" Matinee to Benefit AACC Food Pantry

Stone Church and Playhouse team to give holiday boost to Atlantic Highlands Food Pantry

All Saints' Memorial Church (The Old Stone Church), is sponsoring a benefit matinee for the Area Association of Community Churches Food Pantry on Sunday, November 21, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Avenue Playhouse in Atlantic Highlands. The comedy, "Playing Doctor," written by Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore, promises to be a hilarious romp of medical mayhem, sure to boost the spirit. The First Avenue Playhouse is offering a generous portion of each $25.00 ticket sold for this performance to the Food Pantry.

The idea for a desert theatre fundraiser came out of a recent All Saints' Outreach Committee meeting where word received of a severe shortage in the pantry's shelves of a wide variety of items. Committee member Lois Young contacted Mrs. Mary Carhart, pantry director, to discern the best way to fulfill the pantry wish list. Besides upping the number of weekly shelf items to the pantry, the committee also advanced the idea of a benefit theatre performance as a way to forward funds to the pantry to take care of re-stocking the shelves.

For this specific fundraiser matinee performance, tickets are not available at the First Avenue Playhouse. People are encouraged to contact the All Saints' Church Office at 732-291-0214, or AACC Food Pantry in Atlantic Highlands, 732-291-0485, for tickets. During off-business hours, tickets can be reserved by calling Barb Drakulich, Outreach Committee Chairperson at All Saints', at 732-872-0158.

According to Mrs. Carhart, "this theatre fundraiser idea couldn't have come at a better time for the pantry. Our shelves need to be refilled for what we expect to be the largest number of clients ever for the upcoming holiday season." Mrs. Carhart, a veteran of fourteen years at the pantry, has a number of senior volunteers who themselves have long tenures in helping out on Monday's, Wednesday's and Thursday's from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Mrs. Carhart and her hard-working crew of volunteers more or less run a mini-market housed at the United Methodist Church in Atlantic Highlands. Some changes are quite noticeable over the past two years, including a 50% increase in numbers of clients, as well as a sharp demographic switch to younger clients with children. The pantry serves not only Atlantic Highlands customers, but also customers from Sea Bright, Highlands, Navesink, Leonardo, Port Monmouth, and Belford. The pantry will gladly accept new donors and donations during their posted business hours.

Crop Walkers Raise Funds to End Hunger

RED BANK, NJ - This year’s annual Red Bank CROP Hunger walk was blessed with sunshine and 70 degree weather! Walkers and volunteers nearing 1,000 all came out to take steps to end hunger in our local and global communities.

While it takes a little time to tally up the money, we already know that this year’s goal of collecting 8,000 pounds of food for our 17 local partners was far surpassed! Monmouth County supporters of CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) set their own goal and brought 11,000 pounds of food which was sorted and distributed by students from CBA on the day of the walk.

Navesink 52: A River Year

Photograph Exhibit Opens November 5 at Oyster Point Hotel

Red Bank, NJ – Red Bank’s Oyster Point Hotel will exhibit a unique series of photographs by local artist Gerda Liebmann that capture a year of changing light and mood, looking east out over the Navesink River from Locust Point.

The exhibit, entitled “Navesink 52: A River Year,” will open Friday, November 5 at 7:00 PM. This is a free wine and cheese reception and the public is welcome to attend.

After the opening, the exhibit will remain on display at the hotel through November and December. All 52 photographs were taken from the same spot, just north of the Oceanic Bridge, one week apart from each other.
