Crude oil prices increased this week as COVID continues to keep travel restrictions in place and forecasted demand low

Pump prices, both locally and nationally, have increased this week, while gas demand decreased slightly last week, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Around the region, Delaware is the only standout, with a statewide average price dropping by a penny in the last week. Total domestic gasoline supplies increased and total crude utilization across domestic refineries took a small step forward.
Today’s national gas price average is $2.45, up three cents in the last week, up 19 cents in the last month, and unchanged from this time last year.
Monmouth County has 243 additional positive cases of COVID-19

FREEHOLD, NJ – Monmouth County Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone and County Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley have announced that today, Feb. 5, there are 243 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Monmouth County. There are six new deaths being reported today related to COVID-19 in Monmouth County.
The County Commissioners and the Monmouth County Health Department (MCHD) are strongly urging residents to do their part to slow the spread by practicing social distancing, wearing a face covering when social distancing is not possible, not gathering in large crowds, washing their hands and staying home when sick.
Ocean Township Man facing Child Pornography Charges

FREEHOLD – An Ocean Township man is facing charges for the possession and distribution of child pornography following a tip he uploaded the materials to his social media account, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Alexander Mejia, 35, of the 3100 block of Willow Drive in Ocean Township, is charged with second degree distribution of child pornography and third degree possession of child pornography. Mejia was taken into custody on Feb. 4, 2021, and transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township pending a detention hearing.
Count Basie Center for the Arts to Receive $100K Grant from National Endowment for the Arts

RED BANK, NJ - The Count Basie Center for the Arts has been approved for a $100,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support mindALIGNED, the organization’s collective impact initiative in the areas of professional development for educators, creative teaching strategies, artist residencies and arts experiences. The Basie Center’s project is among 1,073 projects across America totaling nearly $25 million that were selected during this first round of fiscal year 2021 funding in the Grants for Arts Projects funding category.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support this project from the Count Basie Center for the Arts,” said Arts Endowment Acting Chairman Ann Eilers. “The Basie Center is among the arts organizations across the country that have demonstrated creativity, excellence, and resilience during this very challenging year.”
