Mrs. Highlands United States 2013 platform: “Restoring The Shore: Hope For Highlands”
Highlands, NJ – Melissa M. Festa has garnered the title of Mrs. Highlands United States 2013 and will go on to compete at the Mrs. New Jersey United States Pageant in May, where she will join married women from across NJ to promote her personal platform, fund raise for charities, and compete for a cash award, evening gown, year of image consulting, jewelry, and an all-expense paid trip to the national pageant in Las Vegas, among other prizes.
Melissa is representing Highlands in Monmouth County, where she is happily married to her husband, Bryan. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration of Television and Radio Broadcasting from Monmouth University. She is compassionate about her platform, “Restoring The Shore: Hope For Highlands”. Along with many other surrounding towns, Melissa's hometown was hit extremely hard by Hurricane Sandy. As a representative of Highlands, NJ Melissa hopes to bring much needed attention to this area.
The Community YMCA Expands Family Support Services in Monmouth County

Bayshore Family Success Center to Open this Spring at Union Beach Memorial Library
Union Beach, NJ – Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and representatives from the state Department of Children and Families (DCF) joined local officials at the Union Beach Memorial Library on April 2 to announce that The Community YMCA has received $300,000 in state funding to open the Bayshore Family Success Center to serve local families in need of support services.
The center, part of the state’s extensive network of Family Success Centers, will be housed temporarily at the library until a more permanent location is available in the Union Beach area. Families will be able to gather at the center to receive free resources and support before they find themselves in crisis, said Rhonda Anderson, President & CEO of The Community YMCA.
Veterans’ Job Fair April 24 at Middletown VFW

MIDDLETOWN, NJ - Hiring our Heroes, a Job Fair for veterans, will be held on Wednesday, April 24 from 10 am to 1 pm at Middletown VFW Post 2179. The post is located at 1 Veterans Lane in the Port Monmouth section of town. The fair, which is organized by the Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee, is free for both employers and job-seekers. Employers across all sectors will be recruiting for currently-available positions. Interested employers and veterans can register for the event at hoh.greatjob.net. A resume writing class for veterans will be held in advance of the event at 8:30am. Also at the job fair will be a Mobile Health Outreach Unit from the US Department of Veterans Affairs that will provide basic health screenings as well as representatives from the Monmouth County Veterans Service office who will assist veterans with benefits and claims information.
This VFW- and ESGR-sponsored hiring event is being conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation; the Department of Labor Veterans Employment & Training Service (DOL VETS); New Jersey Committee, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR); The American Legion; the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; NBC News; the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; the New Jersey State Parole Board; the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development; and other local partners.
Middletown Deputy Mayor Lends a Helping Hand at Meals on Wheels

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Deputy Mayor Stephanie Murray recently lent a helping hand at the local Meals on Wheels program at the township’s Senior Center. Her visit is part of an annual awareness campaign organized by the Meals on Wheels Association of America to generate awareness about the growing number of seniors facing the threat of hunger in America and to encourage action on the part of the local community.

FEMA is covering 75% of the total cost for the repair project, which is more than $19 million. Twelve damaged piers are included in this project; eight of them are fixed wood and four are floating wood. The project also includes repairs to the observation platform, access ramps for those with disabilities and all of the water, electric, sanitary, and fuel system utilities on the damaged docks.
