MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The members of Navesink Hook & Ladder Fire Co. # 1 are trading their fire helmets for footballs in an effort to raise money for Special Olympics New Jersey.
On March 4, the company will travel to MetLife Stadium, in the Meadowlands, for the 6th Annual New York Giants Snow Bowl Flag Football Tournament. The team will play in at least three games right on the field at the stadium.
In order to be in the competition teams must raise at least $1600, but are encouraged to raise more. All funds go to Special Olympics New Jersey, a non-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for over 22,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The members of Navesink Hook & Ladder are proud to be in the Snow Bowl in honor of Brittney Mount, daughter of firefighter Bill Mount. Brittney is 10 years old and was born with Downs Syndrome. She will be joining the team on the field as their honorary Team Captain.

New Jersey American Water fire hydrants to get pressure markers and snow flags
Voorhees, NJ - New Jersey American Water fire hydrants in Lincroft, NJ will be outfitted with new water pressure markers thanks to local Boy Scout Sam Fowler. The 17 year-old scout also plans to attach more than 150 fire hydrants in Lincroft with color coded pressure bands and 5-foot tall snow flags.
As part of the project, Fowler, along with fellow scouts, will be attaching color coded bands to the hydrants. These bands, donated by New Jersey American Water, help to mark the location of the hydrants by using reflective paint. Each band will also indicate the water pressure for that specific hydrant. Each color represents a different range of water pressure capacities, which allow the firefighters to quickly determine each hydrants capacity.
This task is part of Fowler’s individual project for rank advancement within Boy Scouts. He is currently working towards earning the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. Fowler is the administrator of the project and in charge of everything dealing with the markers.
