I was generally clueless about the details of the new movie “Bombshell” set in the middle of this decade. It presents the based-on-a-true story of sexual harassment at Fox News led by the white, male company figures in power. We have heard of this in other industries, most publicly the movie business, so the irony of this effective presentation on the big screen I hope is helpful.
Fox News, CNN and the affiliated spin-off shows were never the source of my news input so came into this film with no pre-judgments.
I don't know to what extent the film it was a 100% accurate but this was a tremendously well made following the career path of 3 talented, attractive & driven female journalists. Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman & Margot Robbie were all excellent in this film Fox CEO & subsequently disgraced and dismissed CEO Roger Ailes was fantastically played and transformed by the uber John Lithgow. Academy consideration should be shown to the make-up etc folks associated with this film.
The role of Roger Ailes shows the 180 of a brilliant TV news manager combined with being a slovenly, dirty old man. He is very aware of his industry power and uses it to elicit the sexual gratification he wants while seemingly being happily married.
Like the excellent recent film”Richard Jewe”, this based on a true story movie just won't have much box office success due the limited scope of interest among most contemporary audiences
This has to be one of the top 3 movies I've seen all year. Exceptionally well done and I was smacked in the face watching career women professionals navigate a hellacious route. Jaw dropping.
